That's the reason why I didn't post the last days.....I had to empty the pc-room because the room needed to be painted......

Tutorial pincushion 2

I've made some more pincushions today and I made a lot of pics for you, I think the pics don't need much explanations.....

You need 5 squares 3X3" from three different fabrics....

IMPORTANT...

for all the seams you have to let on the beginning and on the end 1/4"...

looks like a flower.... :-)

don't close the last seam....

turn the pincushion inside-out

now you can stuff your pincushion....

this little thing is perfect to turn all the edges out, it is called:

that purple thang

close the last seam by hand...

that's one of my favourite pincushion patterns.

Storage unit....

1 3/4" stripes to make a bias stripe long enough to cover the plastic all around....

sew the bias on the plastic...

the bias aroun d the plastic sheet is finished....

two pieces of fabric, right sides together, and a piece of batting....

I use Thermolan batting. When your piece isn't long enough you can sew them together with a simple zig-zag stitch.....

sew the three layers together using 1/4 inch....

cut the four corners....

don't sew 3-4 " on one side, so that you have an opening to turn the piece inside out...

sew all around to fix the three layers...

7" for the plastic, you sew the 7" point to the 4" point on the fabric...

4" between the sewing lines

Today I made this storage unit to hang on a door.
I needed something to store all my fused fabric.
But you also can use it for magazines or drawings, or.....

Bisart

Bisart is an exhibition in Bissen (Luxembourg). This event is every year in may and the artisans live all in this little village in the middle of Luxembourg. For most off them heir art is their hobby. Our quiltgroup has some quilts here because the meeting point of our group is Bissen.

You can see here some really remarquable works of art, paintings, sculptures, mosaics, photos, quilts etc...

The theme of the exhibition was "PEOPLE"

Tut anch amun

One of my early quilts. It was made in 1996 and it was one of my first own designs.

I'm a fan of Egypt and the egyptian culture, so I had to do Tut Anch Amun.

I paper-pieced the design, today I would certainly sew it in another way, perhaps appliqué?

The next pics will show you a little bit of the hand-quilting, it isn't perfect but that's the best I could do at this time.....and I still like this boy! :-)

Some garden-impressions..

The last two weeks we had sunny warm weather here in Luxembourg and I worked a little bit in our small garden. The days I don't post...I'm speaking to my flowers....!:-)

Dancing procession in Echternach

The dancing procession in Echternach is an annual Roman Catholic procession held in Echternach, in eastern Luxembourg. Echternach's is the last traditionnel dancing procession in Europe.
The procession was yesterday, it is held every Whit Tuesday around the streets of the city of Echternach. It honours Willibrord, the patron saint of Luxembourg.
Thousands of pilgrims, traditionnally clothed in black and white are dancing throw the streets. The procession begins on the Sauer bridge and ends in the basilica where is the tomb of Willibrord. A lot of bands are also in the procession playing a special music. Here you can see a little video (scroll to the bottom of the page).
The procession took place annually without interruption until 1777, than is was forbidden by the church. It was recommenced in 1802 and has continued ever since.
Next year it will be on the list of world cultural heritage.

PINCUSHION Tutorial

Yeasterday I made 6 pincushions in less than 1,5 hours. It's so easy to sew and a perfect little gift for a quilter. :-)

I will show you how to sew the pincushion....

First you have to choose four different, coordinating fabrics....

cut them in 3 " stripes.....

For one pincushion you need 2 squares 3 X 3 " from 4 different fabrics,

8 squares....

sew together two different squares (chain-piecing) and than the other combination of colours...

iron the seam-allowences all to the same side...

Now you have to sew a four-patch with two same colour-combinations.....

I'm a lazy girl, so, again chain-piecing..... :-)

on the four seams all around open two stitches...

...... :-)

Now you have to sew the two four-patches together, lay them out like above, the red square will be sewn to the strawberry square....

When sewing them together let at both sides 1/4 ".....

go all around, sewing the squares together....

Don't forget to stop 1/4 " before the corner...

..........

leave the last seam open and turn the pincushion inside out...

stuff the pincushion ....

stuffed and ready to be closed....

close the last seam by hand...
