Frosty Luxembourg

Early this morning we had ice-rain here in Luxembourg...it was nearly impossible to left the house without a bucket of salt....
the streets were like a mirror......
and this evening the same game begins...ice-rain and very low temperatures...
Brrrrrrr.....
The picture above is from our little goldfish pond....

The pattern is printed in different colours. I taped a bit of fabric to the colour sheme of the pattern, so for me it's easier to make no mistakes (hopefully!!)

Sewing again! :-)

That's the wall hanging I'm sewing for the moment, a beautiful rose pattern from
SilverLiningOriginals
But I'm sewing it in different colours, not pink-red but orange-red and a black background.
Posted by Picasa

after cutting out the different pattern pieces I pin the first fabric on the paper...
Posted by Picasa

than I fold the paper over and cut a small seam allowance...
Posted by Picasa

as you can see I don't cut the following pieces but I take a smaller piece of fabric and sew the paper piece on...
Posted by Picasa

I flip the whole piece of fabric over and press it....
Posted by Picasa

after pressing I cut the fabric,...never forget to let at least 1/4" seam allowance on the paper edges....
Posted by Picasa

The piece nr 4 is a background piece.....
Posted by Picasa

When the little block is finished cut the seams all around to 1/4"
Posted by Picasa

when you don't know if your fabric piece is big enough to cover the paper, you only have to flip the paper back like this....so you can see if the fabric(here the black one) is big enough....
Posted by Picasa

For this special pattern the paper pieces are very small.......
Posted by Picasa

a finished part....
Posted by Picasa

right side....
Posted by Picasa

here you can see how small this pieces are.... :-)
Posted by Picasa

19 different pieces fabric in this small piece....
Posted by Picasa

right side of the same piece

of course I will show you the result of all thos fuzzy work...perhaps in a few days.... ;-).....

I just read a beautiful quilty poem on this site and I have to share it with you:

'Twas the Night Before Christmas Poem
(A Quilters' Version from EverythingQuilts.com)

T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house,
The only one sleeping was a Quilter's dear spouse.
The Log Cabin stockings were almost completed,
"Just a few stitches left," our sweet quilter repeated.

"Then I can hang them and head off to finish
the pillows I'm making, fulfilling Mom's wish
For something quilted to put on her couch and spoke,
as she pricked her poor finger, our quilter said, "Ouch!"

When from out in the kitchen there arose such a crashing,
she sprang from her work, and she dropped all her sashing.
Away to the doorway she flew like a plane,
wondering just what was happening and who she would blame.

When what to her wondering eyes should appear,
but Old Mrs. Claus and her bag of quilt-gear...
With her elves bearing gifts, through the kitchen she came,
she directed and pointed and called them by name.

"Now Elna, now Pfaff, now Bernina and Viking,
the Hoffman and Mumm should be just to her liking.
To the sewing room - there, it's just back of the hall,
now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"

"My Dear," said The Claus (as she liked to be called),
"There really is no need to worry at all.
Your projects will all be completed this night,
I'm terribly sorry we gave you a fright."

"Sit down. Have some tea. It's relaxing, you'll see.
My friends and I've come a long way to help Thee."
She thought she was dreaming, our dear Quilter did,
In fact she quite feared that she near flipped her lid!

But the flash of the needles and twist of the thread
soon gave her to know she had nothing to dread.
They spoke no more words, but went straight to their sewing.
How the work went so quickly she had no way way of knowing.

The stitches, how fine! The corners, how straight!
This Claus-woman's talent was awfully great.
They finished the pillows, then started to quilt.
Before they all knew it, the whole thing was built!

Now old Mrs. Claus, she knew quilters real well,
and she knew they'd need help on this night most of all
So she said to our quilter, "Just move over dear,
I've brought my own needle. We'll get done, never fear.

I told dear old Santa about what quilters do.
How they plan all these projects but have other work too.
So he taught me his magic for doing things fast.
There, that pillows done. Now this is the last.

They tidied their thread snips, and picked up the scraps
and chased our dear quilter's six cats from their laps.
As they scurried away with their thimbles still gleaming
dear Mrs. Claus paused, her cap ribbons streaming.
"Merry Christmas, my dear, now just have a ball!"

(author unknown)

Christmas Eve..

I wish you a peaceful christmas.....

I hope your preps are all done and you will have time to visite this site...enjoy!

Gift Box

Yesterday I bought some fashion earrings as present for a friend and the vendor packed them up in a small paper box....I remembered this boxes from the 197oties.
I wanted to make one in fabric ...here is the result...
Posted by Picasa

It came out very well, so I decided to try it with fabrics. I wanted the base to be 4 1/2 "... here are the final measurements...
Posted by Picasa

First I made a very small one in paper to figure out how it works....
Posted by Picasa

I tranferred the measurements on a piece of TIMTEX........
Posted by Picasa

.....
Posted by Picasa

and cut it out........
Posted by Picasa

that's how I made the shape for the closure :-)
Posted by Picasa

The first fabric is ironed to one side and cut out
Posted by Picasa

the Timtex box without fabric :-)
Posted by Picasa

a contrasting fabric the other side
Posted by Picasa

I sewed a narrow seam all around to secure it....
Posted by Picasa

and satin-stitched all around, don't forget the slots for the closure (here on the left)
Posted by Picasa

with a pencil I marked again all the lines to fold the little box an sewed them so it's easier to fold them
Posted by Picasa

iron the folds...
Posted by Picasa

the finished box with the yellow fabric outside....but I love the dark fabric outside
Posted by Picasa

and finally the finished box.

I think I will make some more in different sizes.
Posted by Picasa

I secured the edges with 2-3 stitches to hold them in place

The 3rd candle is burning.....

Posted by Picasa

As I told you in my previous post I made same of this little boxes, but I changed it a little bit. I sewed the inside circle from two pieces and let an opening for turning. I think it's much easier to close this opening than one on the curve of he circle....
Posted by Picasa

the finished box with a little candle....
Posted by Picasa

I marked the places for the snaps with pins...
In my sewing stash I found plastic snaps and thought that they would be perfect....

Posted by Picasa

I'm busy sewing the christmas gifts for my daughters. Both asked for a shoulder bag.
The first one is finished.....this mesh work above will become a purse matching the bag....
Posted by Picasa

the black bias is from Clover, the red one I made myself....fuzzy work...
Posted by Picasa

here is the finished bag with baby block mesh work on front.....
Posted by Picasa

For the shoulder bag I had to make a few metres of bias.... :-(
Posted by Picasa

the inside with pockets for mobile etc...
Posted by Picasa

I found the pattern for this bag in a german patchwork magazine but I changed it a little bit.
