Guinea pig bag

Yeahhh...I'm back to my sewing-machine...
Yesterday I began to sew this bag and finished it today...
Isn't that a nice piggy? I found the pattern at
FatCatPattern
it's a design from Sindy Rodenmayer.
Have a look at her site, she has so many beautiful patterns and she's sharing them to all
the quilters on the www.. thanks Sindy!

First I traced all the pattern pieces on wonder-under (Vliesofix), you can see threw, so it's easy to trace....
Posted by Picasa

I cut the pieces out (not on the line) and ironed them to the adequate fabric......
Posted by Picasa

than you have to cute the pieces out on the line..don't remove the paper yet!
......
Posted by Picasa

corresponding to the letters on the pattern-pieces lay the design out, now you can remove the paper an iron the pieces together (on a teflon sheet!)
Posted by Picasa

give it some minutes to cool down,
remove from the teflon sheet......
Posted by Picasa

look for a background fabric....I decided myself for a black one...
Posted by Picasa

this design is really too cute... :-)
....
Posted by Picasa

place the piggy-design on the right place an iron it to the background.
Posted by Picasa

I traced a pattern for the bag (it's a big one for my knitting needles and wool)........
Posted by Picasa

lay the pattern on your background fabric, (the small side on the fold of the fabric)..
trace all around...
Posted by Picasa

for the satin-stitch (very narrow zig.zag) I allways take the same colour of thread as the piece of fabric I would like to appliqué....
Posted by Picasa

I wanted to appliqué the design by a satin-stitch so I needed a stabilizer
(tear away stabilizer)........
Posted by Picasa

I use an open appliqué foot on my Bernina, so I can easily see where to go....
Posted by Picasa

Bernina machines have this little arm on the bobbin, for appliqué the thread has to go threw the little hole.......
Posted by Picasa

do you satin-stitch only on the fabric to appliqué...
Posted by Picasa

.........
Posted by Picasa

as you can see I use a really very narrow satin-stitch, I think it looks better and it's easier to sew curves... ;-)
.......
Posted by Picasa

after appliquéing tear away the stabilizer....
Posted by Picasa

quilt the top and the batting(no backing!!) and cut away the excess batting......
Posted by Picasa

pin a piece of batting to the bag.........
Posted by Picasa

pin bias on the two curves of the bag...
Posted by Picasa

sew it on the bag........
Posted by Picasa

lay the bias on the other side and iron the second seam open (so you will have a longer piece on the left side....
Posted by Picasa

baste the zipper in place and stitch in the ditch of the bias.....
Posted by Picasa

.....
Posted by Picasa

close the two side seams...
Posted by Picasa

turn the bag inside out.......

Posted by Picasa

and now the two bottom seams...
Please pay attention that the zipper is open!!!
....
Posted by Picasa

make the same bag with the lining fabric
(if you want to have inside pockets, please sew them on the lining before you close the seams)
Posted by Picasa

insert the lining-bag in the black back, turn the seam allowance inside and sew it on by hand.....
Posted by Picasa

.......
Posted by Picasa

I like it!
