Binding

This morning I made the binding on my indonesian quilt. I always make a small 1/4 " binding, so I cut my stripes at 2 ". Cut as many stripes as you need for the quilt....

That's the way how I sew the stripes together. Lay the stripes right sides together like this...

the dark line is the sewing line...

press the seams to both sides...

I think that needs no comment......?

when you have sewed all the stripes together, press the whole long stripe in half.....

at the beginning cut a small piece of in the diagonal..

fold 1/4 " over and press...

...

don't begin with the binding in a corner, but in the middle of one side...

the sewing begins later at the first pin....

the first pin is in place, than I pull a little bit on the binding to have it tautly , pin again....and so on..

don't forget on te top of the quilt to add your hanging sleeve on the left side of the quilt before sewing the binding on...

you can see I need a lot of pins, everey 2 ".....

just pin to the first corner....

stop sewing the last 1/4 "....

now you can sew the first side of the binding, I always sew over the pins so that everything stay in place.....

slip the stripe over, pay attention to have a straight line....

flip over again....

pin..and sew until the next corner..

back at the beginning, cut the rest of the stripe to fit in the beginning stripe..
