Trapunto bag

...
.....
Posted by Picasa

This pattern is in cm for all my european readers (inch: divide the measurements by 2,34!)
For the upper rounded side I used a plate... :-)
Posted by Picasa

Lay out the pattern on a folded piece of fabric.....
Posted by Picasa

trace around the pattern with a wash-out fabric pen..
trace some ivy leaves.........
Posted by Picasa

lay out the drawing of the leaves under the fabric...
Posted by Picasa

mark the fabric with the ivy pattern...
(I found the idea with the ivy leaves in a german magazine,
Lena's Patchwork & Applikationen, but I made my own little bag with this idea.....

Put two pieces of batting under the drawings, and pin in place...
Posted by Picasa

with a water-soluble thread sew around the ivy leaves....

on the back, cut away the batting like this........

sandwich the bag with a piece of batting and backing......
Posted by Picasa

quilt the top (stippling)......

I also sewed all around the outer line to secure........

now wash the marking lines out and dry the piece....

cut the pattern out with 6 mm (1/4") seam allowance....

add a self-made or a ready bias around the two rounded edges....
Posted by Picasa

fold the bias to the left side and pin in place....
Posted by Picasa

to attach the left side of the bias I sew in the ditch on the right side...
Now you can attach the zipper on the left side by hand or machine....
