Ok, I bought the background fabric, cut out all the pieces and fused them to the fabric. All she had to do was the buttonhole stitch around the pieces.

She did the houses first and needed a year! The small pieces were to difficult...hmm..

so I appliqued some of this.

That's now 4-5 years ago, there is still 1/3 of the quilt to aplliqué. She's no more interested in appliqueing, but she would like to have the finished quilt....so...guess..who has now to finish it? :-)
