Ok, I bought the background fabric, cut out all the pieces and fused them to the fabric. All she had to do was the buttonhole stitch around the pieces.

She did the houses first and needed a year! The small pieces were to difficult...hmm..
so I appliqued some of this.

That's now 4-5 years ago, there is still 1/3 of the quilt to aplliqué. She's no more interested in appliqueing, but she would like to have the finished quilt....so...guess..who has now to finish it? :-)

Another UFO, more than 8 years old. The result of a worldwide swap of 2 1/2" pieces to celebrate the year 2000. The top is finished. I still have to add borders. I think I will applique it to a dark-blue fabric.

Detail. It is all hand-sewn over paper hexagons.

And the next UFO. I made the top because my students wanted to have a workshop for this bug-jars (very popular some years ago). But I never finished it because I don't know what to do with the finished quilt.

Another small quilt (paper-piecing) 12 X 12".

No sewing....

No sewing today. I will be a little quiet the next few days because my husband is for the moment in the hospital. He has a kidney stone (no idea if that is the correct english translation?). He will have surgery tomorrow.

Do you like dogs??

African trees....

I searched the web to find pics of massai people and african trees, to see if my design is realistic.
Hmm...my massai are more colorful.....modern times....perhaps :-)

The shapes of my trees are realistic I think and as you can see I have to make some grasses as background and no typical desert... I will see...

Africa

As is it snowing for the moment here in Luxembourg and I have cold on looking outside, I have to make a quilt that gives me warmth...
Africa.....first I was playing with some rectangles, suddenly they looked like people, perhaps Massai?

They need some shadow...an african tree..or two, or three? :-)

That's it so far...now I have to built a background....desert..hmmm...
I don't know if I will find the right fabric, perhaps I have to dye it. One single piece for background, or a fused or pieced background??
Continuation follows...... :-)

I will thank you everybody to visit my blog every day, you keep me busy, I know you come here to see something new and I must say that I try hard to post every day and to always find something new, so that you are not disappointed. That's for me the best excuse to be every day in my studio and to sew! :-)))

Salvador Dali

Salvador Dali was a spanish surrealist. Born 11.05.1904 in Figueres, died 23.01.1989 in Figueres.
The pic above is the Teatro-Museu Dali in Figueres. Dali made the plans and it is a piece of art!
I was 3 times in this museum and everytime I see something new!
Dali died in the tower of his museum and is burried in his own museum.

Abraham Lincoln (you have to look at this picture from a distance)

The running time......
When you ever come to Spain (Costa Brava) you have to visit this museum at Figueres.
It is worth the time and the journey.

Antonio Gaudi

I think most of you know Antonio Gaudi, a famous spanish artist and architect. I'm allways impressed when I'm in Barcelona and see this buildings. Barcelona is really a Gaudi town.
This artist was born in 1852 in Reus, Tarragona, Catalonia and died in 1926 in Barcelona.

His best-known building is the cathedral Sagrada Familia (you can find many photos on searching the web). The casa Mila and the parc Güell are also well-known.

I think all his work is modern until today and he used some very "quilty" designs, did'nt he? :-)

Today I got my little iron. I like it, it's very handy and get very hot, ideal for fusing. :-)

The little dove.....

.....is finished.

I added another row on the bottom and fused it to the batting

Posted by PicasaThe backing and the quilting is also done.

Freezing...

You know what that means: freezing? I learned about it today. Some people come together on a public place and for 5 minutes they freeze. So they stay for 5 minutes just on the mouvement they did before someone specific gave a command to freece. After 5 minutes a new command and everybody is moving again. In march two young men organized a freezing here in Luxembourg in the railway station in the City. You can see a video of this event on youtube:

It's funy to see the reactions of the visitors of the station who did'nt know what is going on! :-)

Here's another video from New York Grand Central Station....very funny

Preparing the second little quilt...

That's a dove in a Laurel Burch book: quilting for christmas...

First I made a copie of the pattern in the book

I draw the pattern on the back-paper from Vliesofix and cut it out...

Posted by Picasa
I place the copy from the book on a small ironing board and lay a piece of Vliesofix backing paper over the copy so that I can see through...

I iron the cutout paper-templates on the wrong side of the fused fabric, fix it with the tip of the iron, cut it out and place it on the right place

The finished dove. Tomorrow I will try to "built" a background around. :-)
